Ever dreamed of being your own boss, working from anywhere and generally being happier. Well running your own business could offer benefits to suit you. Banish that dreaded Sunday night feeling and instead awake on Mondays refreshed and looking forward to the week ahead.

A word of caution, if you associate being self employed with making lots of money then you may be disappointed. Of course, none of us wants to work for free but depending on the idea it may take years to make a profit. Therefore, making money shouldn’t be your only motivator. But there are still lots of good reasons as to why you should start.

Work from wherever whenever you want. Do you wish to work from the beach, or from a boat floating in the med? Well now you can. With just yourself and a computer you are all set to work from literally anywhere you choose. And just to prove it this blog was written doing just that.

Juggling family life with work

Working for yourself can have huge benefits on your home and family life. Parents can manage school drop offs, pick ups and after school activities whilst managing their work without the extortionate childcare costs. Just being there for yours kids is a reward.

Being your own boss

Who’s in charge, you are. Imagine no one telling you what to do or when to do it. Just not having to do the commute or worry about making it to and from work on time is a life changer. Deciding when to start and when to finish and planning what needs doing is liberating.

We all strive for a happier life and to avoid stress. So not being cooped up in an office working 9 to 5 can help towards this new-found happiness. Plus, you can choose the hours that suit your individual working habits. Work at 6am, 10pm or in the middle of the night, whenever you are at your best.

Learn on the job without feeling guilty. When working for others we can feel overwhelmed and guilty that we don’t know what we are doing. As your own boss, you can learn as your business grows. Start by admitting you don’t know everything, this will open your mind to endless possibilities.

Loving a challenge and being a good problem solver will be suited to working for yourself. Having scope to think outside of the box and coming up weird and whacky solutions. Overcoming the fear of facing up to problems will drive you forward to solve even harder ones. Next, you’ll be climbing Everest.

Your levels of motivation will be increased. And as your level of happiness increases so will your motivation. You will no longer have to sit through one to ones, endless meetings and appraisals of your work. Being appraised on our every movement can be annoying and make us less productive.

Growing your idea

Doing something for yourself brings about a sense of passion and drive that urges you to try harder. Everything you do will count towards your own success. You will feel free and be unlikely to want to go back to working for someone else. Being able to say, “I work for myself” will make you feel proud.

Create your own teams

Hire who, what and when you need without the red tape enforced by corporate companies. Being able to recruit your own team and work alongside people you actually like will add to your enjoyment. You will also get to avoid those awkward water cooler moments and office politics.

Help others or change the world

To say you will change the world with one idea may seem a little far fetched. But with the right idea it is possible. Look at Facebook, one idea, 2 billion users. Everyone has heard of, if not actively using it everyday. You might even be able to save the universe one idea at a time.

Making your own living

Not wishing to contradict the opening statement but small businesses can make enough for their owners to live off. Obviously whether you have enough to support your life depends on the sort of lifestyle you want. Imagine being able to pay yourself and support your family from your own ideas.

Ageless career

No matter what age you are or what stage you are at in your life starting a business is for everyone. Plus, you don’t even need any qualifications or experience. You will need to know the ins and outs about your idea but research can help you learn. You are never too old or too young to have success.

Deciding to go for it

Whenever you decide to take the plunge remember what I said earlier ‘Start by admitting you don’t know everything’ you also won’t have time for everything so recruit wisely and just fill those gaps. If you would like support in your venture Boffix are on hand to manage all your virtual office needs, your calls, your accounts and your IT. Leaving you to manage all other aspects of your business. It may even help you towards working with the sand running through your toes. Go for it and live the dream.
